Broadening of Lati range
The LATI range has been enriched with two new
families of technopolymers: LATER T and LATAMID
SP.
LATER T based on PTT (Poly-Trimethylene Terephthalate).
PTT is an aromatic thermoplastic polyester belonging
to the same family as PET and PBT.
In terms of characteristics, it lies in between
the two aforesaid polyesters, offering:
- Stiffness and toughness (better than
PBT)
- Low water absorption
- High chemical resistance
- Excellent surface appearance and colour
brightness (better than PBT)
- High mouldability (similar to PBT, better
than PET)
Lower cost than PBT and PET
The LATER T materials developed so far
comprise the following versions:
- Reinforced with glass fibre, in some
cases toughened
- Reinforced with glass fibre and self-extinguishing
in accordance with UL 94-V0
- Reinforced with carbon fibre
For more detailed technical information, please
request the specific LATER T documentation.
LATAMID SP1 and SP2 based on PA 6.10 e PA
6.12
The LATAMID SP materials are special versions
of copolymers based on polyamides (PA 6.10,
PA 6.12 or others) with characteristics in some
aspects superior to those of the more common
materials PA 6, PA 66 or PA 66/6. The differences
between these copolymers and the aforesaid PA
materials may be summed up as follows:
- Lower density
- Lower moulding shrinkage
- Lower crystallinity
- Lower stiffness
- Greater flexibility and toughness
- Less water absorption in time
- Higher chemical resistance
- Lower sensitivity to environmental conditions
(humidity) of the size and characteristics
of the parts
- Higher cost
The products that already offer similar characteristics
are Polyamides 11 and 12 but, with respect to
them, PA 6.10 and 6.12 are more cost efficient.

The great advantage of these copolymers is therefore
that they absorb less water and they are less
crystalline. This means that the moulded parts
are not particularly influenced by environmental
conditions (high humidity percentages, tropical
environment, immersion in water) which may lead
to variations in size (oversizing of the part)
and variations in mechanical properties (stiffness,
shock resistance, etc.). The lower crystallinity
enables products with a high degree of toughness
to be obtained as early as the moulding phase.
