Publisearch in Lapedona (province of Fermo), a company specializing in customized gadgets, has developed a new ice scraper made entirely of LATIGEA, the green thermoplastic material proposed by LATI as a solution based on totally renewable sources.
Developed for the Finnish market, traditionally sensitive to environmental and human health policies, this item comes in various colors and shapes, and is fully customizable.
Its wide application field ranges from automotive to household use, e.g. for freezer defrosting.
This article is very interesting from a mechanical point of view, which is a necessary requirement considering its application field.
Being intended for use at low temperature, the ice scraper should not be breakable in cold conditions, and neither the handle nor the blade should break due to the stresses occurring during use. In this case, PLA behaves in a proper manner while remaining more flexible and resilient than any other polymers of petrochemical origin.
However, the most interesting aspect is of course the base resin obtained from corn waste and converted by LATI so as not to alter the "green" properties of this polymer.
The selected LATIGEA grade does not contain any fractions of conventional thermoplastics derived from oil processing, while keeping all the typical features of virgin resin in terms of properties.
