Suitability
for the transportation of potable water
The materials and articles intended
for conduction of potable water do not fall
within the range of application of the European
Directive concerning contact with foodstuffs.
Each Member State has therefore legislated autonomously
on this matter. Nevertheless, a new project, EAS,
is in progress by the European Commission with
the aim to harmonise all national regulations
about drinking water.
In Italy one refers to Ministry of Health Decree
n. 174 of 6 April 2004, which replaces Ministry
of Health Circular n. 102 of 2 December 1978,
and which prescribes the use of all the monomers,
starting substances, additives and colourings
provided for by the legislation on plastic materials
and articles intended to come into contact with
foodstuffs, as per ministerial decree of 21 March
1973 and subsequent amendments, with the conditions,
limitations and tolerances for use provided for
therein.
Certain countries have developed quality standards
which are increasingly establishing themselves
as references for the sector, such as NSF 61,
ACS, WRAS
(through WRc) and KTW, which issue their approvals
on materials and articles only after carrying
out strict testing c/o accredited and certified
laboratories. Even in these cases, Lati S.p.A.
possesses and is able to develop specific formulations
upon the customer's needs, providing, upon request,
the relevant certificates of conformity. |
