LATI obtains OCS certification: the value of zero pellet loss

A milestone that starts from production and reaches the environment.

After a journey that began some time ago with the support of our Environment & Energy Specialist Simone Lioi, the entire QHSE team and the Regulatory Affairs team, in April LATI officially obtained the Operation Clean Sweep® (OCS) certification—a recognition that confirms the company's commitment to preventing plastic pellet loss into the environment.
While in the past we focused on initial strategies, today we want to share the more operational side of the project—the one experienced daily among plants, silos, and presses. We do so through the voices of Ciro Costante, Process Coordinator at Vedano Olona, and Marco Oliverio, Production Area Manager at Gornate Olona. Two key figures who, together with their teams, made this achievement possible.

Coordinating and organizing: how LATI approached the OCS journey

What was your contribution to the OCS certification process?
Ciro Costante: “My role was to coordinate my colleagues, providing logistical and motivational support to ensure that all planned activities were completed on time and with the necessary attention.”
Marco Oliverio: “I took care of organizing departments and resources, identifying the critical points in each area, and motivating the team to reach the goal. Even before measuring results, we looked for effective solutions to minimize losses.”

Order and cleanliness: a culture already rooted in LATI

What were the most challenging aspects in ensuring order, cleanliness, and control?
Ciro: “We actually didn’t face major difficulties. LATI has always had a strong culture of order and cleanliness. We just fine-tuned a few details, but we were starting from a solid foundation.”
Marco: “I’d say it was more motivating than challenging. Daily attention to order is already part of our mindset thanks to Lean Manufacturing. With simple improvements and the introduction of practical methods, we were able to further reduce losses and intervene promptly when needed. It’s a process of continuous improvement.”

The power of teamwork

How important was teamwork?
Ciro: “Teamwork is the key to success. Without everyone’s involvement, not only would we not reach certain goals—we wouldn’t even be able to maintain them over time.”
Marco: “Essential! As in every project, results only come when everyone collaborates with the same goal. I’m very proud of my team: I saw genuine sensitivity toward this issue.”

Moments to remember

Is there a moment you recall with particular pride?
Ciro: “During the final audit, the certifier complimented us on the order and cleanliness observed—it was a moment of great satisfaction.”
Marco: “Definitely the creation of dedicated hoppers, one for each department, was a key step. It allowed us to have dedicated collection points and to track our progress over time.”

The value of OCS certification for LATI

What does this recognition represent for you and for LATI today?
Ciro: “It’s a source of pride—both personal and corporate. A tangible result that reflects our daily commitment.”
Marco: “Certifications make us credible and reliable at a global level, and OCS is the cherry on top. Knowing that we work to prevent potential environmental damage—and doing so with awareness—is much more than a commitment: it’s an opportunity we embrace with enthusiasm.”

Conclusion: a culture that starts with people

The success in obtaining the Operation Clean Sweep® certification is not just a badge to show off—it’s the result of an internal culture, shared and lived. A culture that starts with awareness, passes through the organization of production processes, and reaches all the way to environmental respect.
LATI will continue on this path, driven by continuous improvement and the determination of its people. Because preventing pellet loss is a daily commitment—and a concrete act for our planet.
