From Power Management to Connectivity: Ready for Every Challenge
Applications in the electrical and electronic sector require materials with consistent and reliable performance even under harsh conditions: high temperatures, humid environments, high electrical insulation, and flame resistance. For these applications, LATI offers a wide range of technical self-extinguishing thermoplastic compounds.
These materials enable innovation in devices for electric energy management as well as in industrial automation, connectors, lighting technology, communications, datacenters, and digital services, as well as in the ever-evolving world of renewable energies.
Explore our offerings in the LATAMID (PA6 and PA66), LATER (PBT), LARTON (PPS), LARAMID (PPA), LATIOHM, and LATICONTHER product families.
Energy Distribution
Power management applications for medium and low voltage include components for electrical panels, fuse holders, switches of all types, inverters, smart meters, and all protection systems used in energy distribution.
In this context, minimizing fire risk is imperative. LATI materials offer:
- Resistance to glow wire GWIT-GWFI-GWEPT and UL94 self-extinguishing up to thicknesses of 0.4 mm.
- Resistance to creep currents even in the presence of high voltages and environmental humidity.
- Thermal stability even with prolonged exposure over time
- Dimensional stability at high temperatures and in the presence of humidity.
- Chemical resistance to oils, greases, and typical industrial contaminants.
- Excellent mechanical properties in terms of strength, resilience, and stiffness.
- Reliability over time, as essential for materials designed for durable goods.
Numerous self-extinguishing solutions in the LATAMID, LATER, LARAMID, and LARTON families are dedicated to power management, all certified by UL and VDE.
Industrial Automation
The demands of industrial automation require materials resistant to wear, mechanical stress, and challenging environments. LATI compounds for this sector include:
- Structural LATAMID, LARTON, and LARAMID compounds reinforced with glass and carbon fibers to create lightweight and robust structural elements, also resistant to creep and fatigue.
- Self-lubricating LATILUB materials, to reduce friction, wear, and noise in mechanisms and guides.
- Antistatic LATIOHM and LATISTAT compounds, to prevent electrostatic charge accumulation wherever it could create hazardous conditions for people or equipment.
Connectors
The ongoing process of miniaturization of electronic devices primarily involves connectors, now molded in thicknesses of a few tenths of a mm. Used everywhere, from e-mobility to datacenters, these must ensure:
- GWIT, GWFI, and UL94 flame resistance as required by regulations.
- Extreme dimensional stability, even with complex geometries.
- Excellent dielectric properties to ensure insulation even on thin layers and in the presence of environmental humidity.
- High CTI values, meaning resistance to creep currents
- Flexibility and toughness to allow for assembly and mounting operations.
- Resistance to prolonged exposure to temperature and humidity, without incurring physical degradation and without compromising electrical and flame performance.
Lighting Technology
For the lighting sector, LATI offers materials usable both in the electrical part and in support elements for managing the heat produced by electronics:
- For LED light sources, heat sinks, overmoldings, and housings for PCBs and drivers can be made with thermally conductive LATICONTHER materials;
- Supports, frames, and other structural elements can be made with high aesthetic yield structural LATIGLOSS compounds or with self-extinguishing LATAMID and LATER grades.
Renewable Energies
LATI materials provide concrete solutions for various systems dedicated to energy production from renewable sources and for the related devices necessary for integration into the electrical grid or for energy storage. Among the scenarios addressable with the LATI range, we note:
- Outdoor use, meaning resistance to weather and UV rays confirmed by numerous UL746C F1 and F2 certifications.
- Flame resistance with UL94-V0 self-extinguishing certified up to thicknesses of 0.4 mm.
- High CTI values, meaning resistance to creep currents, and Inclined Plane Tracking (IPT) at 1000 and 1500V as required, for example, in the photovoltaic sector.
- The generation of gaseous hydrogen through water electrolysis, addressable with compounds featuring maximum chemical resistance LASULF, LARAMID, and LARTON.

Frequently Asked Questions
The typical mechanical properties of self-extinguishing thermosets, extreme dimensional stability over time, and excellent flame performance are also available in various self-extinguishing structural LATI grades, such as LATAMID 66 H2 G/50-V0HF1.
There are many possibilities, reinforced and non-reinforced, all UL94 self-extinguishing certified at 0.4 mm, with excellent GWFI and GWIT values, with and without halogens. The LATAMID PX family is certainly an excellent candidate due to its flame behavior and excellent toughness.
Certainly, in the LATICONTHER compound family there are several self-extinguishing grades certified by UL, with traditional or halogen-free formulations.
